They decided to unite two industries with great potential for economic growth: medical cannabis and the metaverse.

Bogotá — In recent years, Colombia has become an essential benchmark for the production of medical cannabis, generating investment, employment, and innovation in the field.

In this context, Greenlab was born, an enterprise of young Colombians that seeks to improve people’s physical and mental well-being through the cultivation and production of medicinal cannabis.

They offer cosmetic and pharmaceutical products, prioritizing environmental sustainability and caring for neighboring communities.

However, the work of this company goes beyond the conventional, as they are combining NFT technology with their cannabis products.

NFTs are digital assets associated with a certificate of authenticity using blockchain technology, the same technology used in cryptocurrencies.

Juan Manuel Téllez, CEO of the company, said that they decided to bet on NFTs due to this industry’s excellent growth potential. “This project aims to use technology to create a community around medicinal cannabis, where people have the opportunity to get to know the best face of the Colombian countryside.”

As Téllez explained, an NFT is not only a digital work or piece but also provides a series of tangible benefits to collectors. “In our case, we will plant one medicinal cannabis plant in our crop for each NFT created. By harvesting the plant, it is transformed into a medical cannabis product given to collectors,” he noted.

Companies like Adidas or Nike are launching NFT collections as they have identified a market where more and more people are interested in this type of asset, as they see them as a new form of investment.

What is revolutionary about NFTs is that, by having an associated certificate of ownership, they can be sold on technological platforms to generate a profit when the collection increases in value.

In this sense, Greenlab will launch its NFT collection that the artist has designed from Cali, Julián Majín, who has become a benchmark in the world of cannabis since his work combines surreal worlds and trips to space. With this thousand-year-old plant as the protagonist.

“The collection called Space Resistance consists of 5,555 unique pieces created digitally. We are going to create an international community that sees the plant as a generator of change and Colombia as a world benchmark in its production,” said Téllez.

Greenlab was born in the hands of two young Colombian entrepreneurs, who opted for this plant after having experienced first-hand the benefits of cannabis in medical treatments.

After a year of waiting for permits and licenses from the Ministries of Justice and Health, this venture managed to start operations in 2021, with the conviction of improving people’s lives thanks to medical cannabis while generating sustainable development in the field.

“This undertaking was born with the firm intention of making the field more technical and bringing formal employment opportunities while generating well-being,” said Felipe Moreno, co-founder of Greenlab.

In this sense, the company works on several Corporate Social Responsibility campaigns, in which, for example, they allocate a percentage of profits to all crop operators; promote formal hiring in the field; they prioritize the hiring of women heads of household and all the water they use in the crop comes from rainwater.

On the other hand, in this time of work, the company has developed two lines of business. In the B2B line, it offers dried flowers, and cannabis extracts to produce final products, while in the B2C line, they have final products in which CBD oil and master formulas stand out, which are sold with a medical prescription. Its products have INVIMA registration and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification.

After obtaining the licenses for psychoactive cultivation, non-psychoactive cultivation, and the manufacture of derivatives, they are about to carry out the first export of dried flowers. Innovation in cultivation techniques, coupled with ideal climatic conditions and low production costs, position the company as a great player in producing quality cannabis flowers, complying with international standards.
